SAINTS Under-21s ended their Premier League 2 regular season campaign with a dominant but goalless 0-0 draw against Derby County on Friday evening.
Saints controlled much of the match and created several clear chances but were denied by a strong performance from Derby goalkeeper Harley Price.
Moses Sesay came closest early in the second half, striking the crossbar after meeting a cutback into the area.
Earlier, Princewill Ehibhatiomhan had a golden opportunity after a smart run and pass from Will Merry, but he shot wide of the far post.
Cameron Bragg also nearly caught Price out directly from a corner, with the ball landing on top of the net.
Derby’s best chance came late in the first half when 32 year old Conor Washington’s near-post strike rebounded off the upright.
After the break, Southampton piled on the pressure. Derrick Abu tested Price from a distance before substitute Brandon Charles and Ehibhatiomhan both forced further saves.
Despite Saints’ dominance, Derby had two late openings through Demiane Agustien, but he failed to convert.
The result leaves Southampton awaiting confirmation of their playoff opponents, with hopes of securing a home tie.
Their focus now shifts to an exciting Premier League Cup semi-final and the play-off stages to conclude a strong season.
