SOUTHAMPTON'S youngsters secured progression to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup with a 2-0 win over Swansea City.
Saints took the lead in the second half thanks, Abdulhalim Okonoloa-Matthews, who scored from a well-worked set piece moments after Swansea were reduced to 10 men.
The hosts then scored in their own net, doubling Southampton's advantage and ensuring they crossed the bridge home having sealed progression.
Both sides had chances in the first half - Swansea's Thomas Woodward's inviting low was wasted before Southampton's Adetokundo Oyekunle saw an effort blocked.
The visitors then began to take control of the game, enjoying a flurry of set pieces which came close but were dealt with well by Sam Seager and his defence.
Under-21s players Jay Robinson and Thierry Rohart-Brown went close but the first goal remained elusive heading into halftime.
Swansea started the second half quickly and were denied an opening goal when Max Fry did well to block Morgan Bates' well-hit shot.
The turning point of the game came on the hour mark, Caio Ifans was shown a straight red for Swansea and Saints took full advantage of the resulting free-kick.
Aston Daley's delivery was pushed away by keeper Seager, but only into the path of Okonola-Matthews who tapped home from close range.
Swansea looked to respond but to no avail, a place in the fourth round sealed for Saints in stoppage time via another set-piece routine.
This time it was a corner, Brogan Popham was looking to intervene but inadvertently headed past his keeper.
