A SAILING team has been praised for their swift actions after a crew member was lost overboard during Cowes Week.
The 45-year-old woman fell into the Solent from the 43ft yacht Jump during racing on Monday.
The crew of the yacht deployed an emergency marker buoy before dropping their spinnaker and manoeuvring the yacht to pick her up again.
She was then taken to Cowes by the lifeboat where she was treated by paramedics.
Cowes lifeboat crewmember Richard O’Callaghan said: “The woman, wearing a lifejacket, was probably in the water for no more than five minutes before she was back on board.
“She had been given warm clothing, warm tea and even a woolly hat. They did all the right things, as she had been showing signs of hypothermia.”
