HAMPSHIRE round the world star Dee Caffari will put five young sailors through their paces next week as part of an innovative project to support Britain's most promising solo yachting talent.
Caffari, the only women to have sailed round the world single-handed non stop both eastabout and westabout, will push Sam Matson, Will Harris, Lizzie Foreman, Andrew Baker and Sam Goodchild to their limits kick-starting their 2017 training programme.
The five sailors are part of Vendee 2020 Vision, a Southampton-based project aiming to produce a British winner of a solo round the world race, something not achieved since Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's historic victory in the Golden Globe in 1969.
Caffari will train the sailors on Vendee 2020 Vision's 60ft Open 60 raceboat, the same class that is used in the Vendee Globe solo round the world race.
