Manchester City have announced the departures of assistant coaches Juanma Lillo, Inigo Dominguez and Carlos Vicens in a major backroom shake-up.

Lillo and Dominguez will both leave the Etihad Stadium when their contracts expire this summer, while their fellow Spaniard Vicens has been appointed head coach at Portuguese side Braga.

City said in a statement that Lillo, who first arrived as manager Pep Guardiola’s number two in 2020, left in summer 2022 to become head coach of Al-Sadd and then rejoined as assistant in 2023, “expressed a desire to return home to Spain”.

Dominguez was appointed when Lillo began his second spell at the club, while Vicens joined in 2017, helped lead the under-18s to FA Youth Cup glory in 2020 and has been part of Guardiola’s staff for four years.

City said the trio’s replacements “will be announced in due course” and added: “Everyone at Manchester City wishes Juanma, Inigo and Carlos the very best and thanks them for their contributions to a hugely successful period for the club.”

Guardiola’s side ended this season without a major trophy for the first time in eight years, but secured Champions League football by finishing third behind Premier League winners Liverpool and Arsenal.
