SAINTS have reportedly tabled an €8million (£6.8m) bid to sign promising FC Koln and USA international striker Damion Downs.

Germany-born Downs, 20, is six-foot three-inches tall and has scored 13 goals in 42 matches for Koln, averaging a goal every 164 minutes.

He netted 10, and provided a further five assists, in 2. Bundesliga last season, as his side won the division and promotion to the top flight.

The Daily Echo can confirm that the club are working to seal a deal to make Downs their second signing of the summer transfer window.

Sky Germany say Saints have now tabled an €8m bid for Downs, with the striker set to decide his future following his international involvement.

Two-cap Downs is currently in the United States for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, with USA facing Costa Rica up next in the quarter-final.

Saints owner Dragan Solak previously confirmed that technical director Johannes Spors had been authorised to sign a new striker as a priority.

Spors is leading the club's recruitment of players and has already signed centre-back Joshua Quarshie, 20, from Hoffenheim in Germany.
