SAINTS Foundation have raised £17,000 to support their charity work from their play-on-the-pitch sponsors day at St Mary's Stadium.

This year's annual tournament was a double header with corporate and premium patrons of the charity competing in two tournaments on Friday, June 6.

A total of 24 teams from local businesses took to the St Mary’s pitch over the course of afternoon and evening tournaments with friends and families in the stands.

Adams Morey, Red Funnel, Morgan Sindall, Mackoy Ltd, Connect IT, Selwood, Pangea Insurance, Orange Rooms, BW Residential and Bargate Homes were joined by two teams from the foundation's SO14 Active project in the afternoon tournament.

The evening session saw Williams Shipping, Taylor Wimpey, CSM, Solent Stevedores, DP World, Herbert William, AE Insurance Broker, Persimmon Homes, BCD, Carnival UK, Meachers, and Barratt Homes competing for the trophy in the name of supporting Saints Foundation.

Jazz Bhatti, Saints Foundation head of partnerships and business development, said: “Our Play at St Mary’s tournament is a regular part of our calendar, and the local businesses always make it a competitive tournament with an great atmosphere.

“Welcoming local Southampton businesses to our home at the heart of the city to take to the pitch in support of our work is always an honour.

"A huge congratulations to the Barratt Homes and SO14 Active, but a huge thank you to everyone who took part for their commitment to the day and helping us to support the community of Southampton.”

In the first tournament, one of the SO14 Active teams went all the way to the final, where they met Red Funnel. In a tightly contested game which saw Red Funnel take the lead, SO14 Active would turn it around for a 2-1 win.

The evening saw a nail biting final between Barratt Homes and Taylor Wimpy, and Barrett Homes would come out on top. Supporters and players also donated generously to the raffle for further support to Saints Foundation.
