SAINTS star Mateus Fernandes delivered another eye-catching performance as Portugal drew 0-0 with France in their Under-21 European Championship opener.
Fernandes, 20, was at the core of Portugal's best moments, dictating their play as they gave one of the tournament favourites a tough evening.
The midfielder made three successful tackles and won seven duels, the most of any player in a game packed with bright young talent.
Fernandes, now playing in a more competitive team, kept things neat in the midfield while also seeking to kickstart attacks.

He completed all six of his long balls, moving Portugal into strong areas, but was ultimately let down by his teammates in the final third.
Fernandes could have opened the scoring in the first half, but teammate Roger Fernandes opted to shoot when the Saints fan-favourite was in space, five yards from goal.
The draw leaves Portugal third in their group with one game played after Georgia secured a dramatic 2-1 win over Poland.
Fernandes and co return to group action on Saturday, June 14, with all games available to watch on Channel 4.
Saints defender Ronnie Edwards could feature for Lee Carsley's England when they face the Czech Republic on Thursday evening.
