NEW signing Joshua Quarshie insisted he will give "everything" to help Saints secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

Quarshie has joined Southampton from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim and is the first addition to new manager Will Still's squad.

The 20 year old has penned a four-year deal at St Mary's, tying him down until at least 2029.

Quarshie, a pacey centre-back who recorded the fastest top speed in the 2. Bundesliga last season, clocking in at 37.04 km/h, is aiming for a swift return to top-flight football.

"The first message is, I think we both have the same goal, to get promoted to the Premier League again," Quarshie told Southampton's media team.

"I will try everything I got to help the team with my qualities and also show the fans what kind of player they've got."

Quarshie made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 18, coming on as a late substitute in a defeat to Wolfsburg, and has already racked up over 80 senior appearances.

The bulk of those games were played with Hoffenheim's B team, who play in the fourth tier, and he has spent the past year and a half playing in the 2. Bundesliga.

Quarshie's time in the second tier has been split between Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he played in a DFB-Pokal semi-final and Greuther Fürth, where he spent the second half of last season.

At six-foot-five-inches tall, Quarshie is an imposing figure and is excited by the prospect of playing the physically demanding Championship.

"English football is a little bit rough, and I like this kind of playstyle because with my height and my body, I think I'm in the right spot," the Germany under-20 international added.

"Since I was a little kid, I was coming to play in England, and now it's coming to reality, so I'm very excited to play here.

"I just spoke with my agents and with the people here that kept in contact with us. From the first second, I was like Southampton is a club.

"I also watched the Premier League, and I also looked up some Southampton games, and it suits me.

"That (interest) made me feel very happy because Southampton is a very big club with a very good and very big history.

"It's quite remarkable that a club like Southampton shows interest in a player like me. I'm quite excited for the years."
