NEW Saints boss Will Still has opened up on his plans to instil a "consistent" winning feeling at St Mary's again by deploying a high-energy style of football.

Still, who has signed a three-year deal at Southampton, views himself as a pragmatic coach, and will change his game plan to ensure victory.

He has set out his plan to create an environment in which both players and supporters can enjoy football once more after a hugely difficult season.

Saints were relegated to the Championship in record time, earning just 12 points and becoming the first team to lose 30 out of 38 Premier League fixtures.

Belgian-born English coach Still arrives on the south coast after guiding RC Lens to eighth in Ligue 1, and isn't planning to stay out of top-division football for long.

Asked what Saints fans can expect to see from his team, Still said: "High energy. I think I've always said I'd like to be proactive.

"I don't like to sit in and wait and be passive in what we do. I'd like our teams to dominate, to go and press, to be as aggressive as we can be.

"I don't do that just for the fact of running and to say, oh, we're going to be really aggressive. We want to be high up the pitch and in the opposition's third as much as possible.

"It's been entertaining. I want the players to enjoy it. I want the fans, obviously, to get on board and support it.

"But it's (about) creating that environment where we're here to win and we want to win a lot. We want to win consistently.

"And it's just for me being as positive as we can be, as open and as honest with everyone, so that everyone's on board and everyone's reading and getting the same message.

"And by doing that, you set up an environment where people feel good in and people want to be. And that's what I want to create.

"I want to be this high-energy team with good humans, good people who actually enjoy doing ultimately the best job in the world and winning, hopefully as much as we can."

Still has already acquainted himself with St Mary's on a match day, having attended Sunday's defeat to Arsenal, and has watched back "a lot" of games too.

"As I left Lens, I hadn't really expected to walk into the next thing as soon as this, but the opportunity came up," Still continued.

"It allows you to get a feel of the training ground, get a feel of the stadium, try and understand what the supporters want, what the people inside the club want.

"I've got four or five weeks before pre-season kicks off. You get to talk to the players, you get to understand them a bit better, you see their behaviours yesterday on the match day, which is ideal.

"It allows you to come back in for pre-season and just to hit the ground running, which is really good."
