PROMOTED Leeds United have been linked with interest in signing former Saints winger Moussa Djenepo after their return to the Premier League.

Djenepo, 26, played 91 times for Saints and scored five goals before he departed for former club Standard Liege after relegation in 2023.

Saints sold Djenepo for around £3million in September 2023, after the English transfer window had shut but while some in Europe still open.

The Malian international returned to the club where he won the Belgian Cup but spent this season on loan at Turkish Super Lig outfit Antalyaspor.

Africa Foot report that Djenepo does not want to stay in Turkey, despite a purchase clause in his contract, and he would like to come back to England.

They add that Leeds, who are preparing for life in the Premier League after winning the Championship title this month, are interested in Djenepo.

To bolster their survival chances, it is said that they would be willing to activate the winger's release clause, valued at €2m (around £1.7m).

The report says that other clubs have also approached Djenepo with the desire to recruit him this summer, including Maccabi Tel Aviv and Rangers.

Djenepo's Saints career started with initial promise in 2019 but tailed off as he failed to adapt to the tactical demands of his four managers.

He did score a stunning goal to help knock Man City out of the EFL Cup in January 2023, as Saints under Nathan Jones eliminated the champions.
