GROUP technical director Johannes Spors is still searching for a new manager who can guide Saints to promotion from the Championship next season.
With Simon Rusk in interim charge until the end of the season, Spors is expected to take his time while appointing Ivan Juric's permanent successor at St Mary's.
Spors has reportedly already been speaking with candidates about the role as Saints gear up for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Danny Rohl
Danny Rohl has already informed Sheffield Wednesday about his summer plans. (Image: Stuart Martin) Current Sheffield Wednesday boss and former Saints assistant Danny Rohl was among the first names linked with the job following Juric's departure.
The German coach was a target for Saints before they appointed Juric in December, however, the compensation fee required to take him from Wednesday stood in the way.
Rohl is reportedly being tracked by Leicester City and RB Leipzig, and has a history with group technical director Spors.
Saints will have to pay a smaller compensation fee when they become a Championship club, and are keen to avoid the same legal issues they had when appointing Russell Martin.

Liam Rosenior
Liam Rosenior has signed a new contract at Ligue 1 club Strasbourg. (Image: Steven Paston/PA) Saints were ambitiously linked with highly-rated English coach Liam Rosenior, who is currently battling to secure Champions League football with French club Strasbourg.
The former Hull City boss, who boasts Sam Amo-Ameyaw and Sekou Mara in his squad, has won plaudits for his impressive work in Ligue 1.
Rosenior was rewarded with a new contract this week, dashing Southampton's already slim chances of appointing the 40 year old.
Will Still
Will Still impressed viewers with his appearance on Sky Sports show Monday Night Football. (Image: RC Lens) Another French-based coach linked with the Saints job ahead of the 2025/26 season is RC Lens boss Will Still.
Born in Belgium to English parents, Still has previously expressed his desire to work for an "ambitious" Championship club, making Saints a realistic destination.
The 32 year old has been dubbed a "top contender" for the role by talkSPORT and currently finds his Lens side 8th in Ligue 1, nine points behind Rosenior's Strasbourg.
David Wagner

The 53 year old has previously won promotion via the play-offs with Huddersfield Town and took Norwich City to the play-offs last season.
Wagner, who was reportedly in talks with almost-relegated Plymouth Argyle in January, has been out of work since leaving Norwich in 2024.
Frank Lampard

Saints have reportedly taken an interest in Frank Lampard following his impressive work at Coventry, which has seen him win an average of 1.75 points per game.
Coventry will secure a spot in the play-offs if they beat Middlesbrough this weekend and avoid a four-goal swing with Millwall.
Appointing Lampard will become highly unlikely should the Sky Blues win promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 1992.
Steven Gerrard

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard's name has been mentioned since Juric's departure, but the Daily Echo understands he is not a serious contender.
The former Rangers and Aston Villa boss has been out of work since leaving Saudi side Al-Ettifaq by mutual consent in January.
Gerrard's record as a manager has seen him lose more games (39) than he has won (32) since departing Rangers in November 2021.
Eric Ramsay
Eric Ramsay worked under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. (Image: PA) Minnesota United boss Eric Ramsay became the latest man linked with the Saints job when his name was raised in the media on Saturday.
The Welsh coach is the youngest manager in MLS history and has been described as one of the best young British coaches.
Ramsay, who previously held roles at Manchester United and Chelsea, has reportedly been interviewed for the role but is not expected to land the job.
