FORMER Manchester United coach Eric Ramsay is reportedly on the shortlist of managers to take over at Saints this summer.

Ramsay, 33, has been in charge at MLS side Minnesota since February 2024, where his side finished sixth in the Western Conference last season.

At Loughborough University, Ramsay worked as an assistant coach alongside Kieran McKenna at the university's football team.

He joined Manchester United in 2021 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, later becoming assistant coach with the Welsh national team in 2023.

Sky Sports report that Ramsay is on Southampton's shortlist of managerial candidates, but stressed that they are not close to an appointment.

They add that Saints will take their time to review all candidates before making a final decision ahead of the new Championship campaign.

Ramsay is the youngest coach in MLS and follows a trend of clubs trusting youthful bosses, including 31 year old Fabian Hurzeler at Brighton.

Ramsay followed the coaching path after graduating from Loughborough University with a sports science and management degree, working at Swansea and Shrewsbury before joining Chelsea in 2019.

Asked about his move to MLS recently, Ramsay told BBC Sport: "I am self-aware enough to know I am by no means the finished article as a head coach.

"I wanted an experience that was going to give me the best chance to develop, the opportunity to make some mistakes and manage something that feels big.

"It feels like there is scrutiny on MLS. There is media to deal with. There is pressure you have to deal with exist, albeit not to the same extent as England.

"The Championship would have been equally as testing, if not more so, but with that constant nagging doubt, looking objectively, that there is a much shorter life-cycle for guys who go into that league."

Saints will also target Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl, 35, and have been tentatively linked to RC Lens manager Will Still, 32.
