DEFENDER Armel Bella-Kotchap has promised supporters that Saints players will play with "dignity and full commitment" to "honour" the club after relegation.
Bella-Kotchap watched from the bench as Saints suffered a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, confirming their demotion to the Championship.
Southampton became the first team relegated with seven games remaining and could yet set a new record-low points total in the division.
In a statement on social media, Bella-Kotchap admitted Southampton's players know they owe supporters maximum effort.
He said: "It's hard to put into words. Relegation hurts - for us players, for the club, and especially for you, the fans.
"Thank you, Saints family, for your unwavering support, your belief and love throughout this tough season.
"We all know we owe you. And in these final games, we'll give it our all - with pride, dignity, and full commitment. to honour this special club.
"For Souhampton. For you. For the badge we all carry in our hearts."
