PREMIER League clubs have today agreed an early opening, an extra window and a change to the dates of the summer 2025 transfer window.

The window will open early, between Sunday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 10, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup.

The 2024 summer transfer window opened on June 14, meaning clubs will be able to do business two weeks earlier than they were last campaign.

It will then reopen on Monday, June 16 and close officially on Monday, September 1, in line with many other major European leagues.

The window cannot remain continuously open until the end of August because FIFA regulations limit closed-season windows to a maximum of 12 weeks.

The FIFA Council approved the interim window last October as an option for national associations which had clubs competing in the Club World Cup.

It is open to all clubs in the league - not just Club World Cup entrants Manchester City and Chelsea - however, there has been no EFL confirmation yet.

With Saints set to compete in the Championship next season, they will be waiting to see what the EFL decide with regards to when they can sign players.

The EFL typically follow suit and match the Premier League's dates but the exceptional circumstance of the Club World Cup does not apply.

The date of the 2025/26 Premier League AGM could also complicate matters, as a club's Premier League membership is not officially rescinded prior to this.

Last year, the Premier League AGM was held on June 6, while it was held on June 14 ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
