SAINTS defender Ronnie Edwards has received his first call up to England's under-21s after impressing on loan at Championship QPR.

Edwards has joined Saints teammate Taylor Harwood-Bellis for their upcoming fixtures against France (March 21) and Portugal (March 24).

Former Peterborough star Edwards, currently at Loftus Road, has made over 20 appearances for England under-19s and the under-20s.

London-born Edwards won the Under-19 European Championship in 2022 and captained the under-20s team five times between 2023 and 2024.

He has now joined Lee Carsley’s squad as they continue preparations for this summer’s Under-21 European Championship in Slovakia.

Saints paid just £3million to sign Edwards from Peterborough in July 2024 but he made just two appearances before embarking on loan.

He started Southampton's 5-3 win over Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup and made a Premier League debut as a substitute against Chelsea.

Edwards is expected to be a potentially key player for Saints in the Championship next season, after returning from his loan at QPR.
