STRASBOURG manager Liam Rosenior praised Sam Amo-Ameyaw's "big heart and great technical ability" following the teenager's Ligue 1 debut.

Amo-Ameyaw, who left Saints in the winter to join Strasbourg on loan with an obligation to buy, played 79 minutes in a 2-1 win over Toulouse on Sunday.

Playing as a right wing-back, Amo-Ameyaw created one chance, registered two shots on goal and was successful with two of his three dribbles.

The BlueCo-owned clue - the same ownership as Chelsea - will pay Saints nearly €10million (around £8million) to sign him permanently this summer.

"I'm very happy and proud of Sam (Amo-Ameyaw). He showed that we can trust in him," said Rosenior.

"We could see at the end of the match the place he has in the squad. He's a player with a big heart and great technical ability."

Amo-Ameyaw had returned to the under-21s before departing Saints for France in February after two years at the club.

The 18 year old, who has not been included in any England youth squad this month, played 12 senior games for Saints.

His only first-team goal came in a 5-3 Carabao Cup win over Cardiff City in August, however, he had scored two in his last three Premier League 2 games.
