FORMER Premier League striker Chris Sutton slammed Saints as "particularly pathetic" as the basement boys nosedive towards the Championship.
Saints are on just six points from 22 matches, winning only one game all league season, and are heading for an instant back to the second tier.
The St Mary's side, who have lost all five games under new boss Ivan Juric, are being touted as the team to finally break Derby County's low points record.
Sutton referenced the unwanted record, which stands at 11 points after being set in 2007/08, in a brutal verdict of the play-off winner's efforts.
"Southampton have been particularly pathetic, haven't they? Six measly points is awful," said Sutton on BBC Radio's Monday Night Club.

"They could end up beating Derby's record, that's how bad they are. We are not even talking about whether they can stay up now.
"Even the most ardent fan of Southampton has given up. They had a great day out at Wembley last season beating Leeds United in the play-off final.
"They would have driven back excited about being in the Premier League but what a totally miserable season they have had.
"They probably wish they lost that final. I admire the way that Ipswich, although it was not great against Man City, are the ones who have that togetherness.
"They have kept their manager and rightly so but you look at the contrast with Leicester, who are a very unhappy club - their fanbase is totally spoilt.
"They probably thought they would get to midtable. I have sympathy for Ruud Van Nistelrooy but I am not sure he should have been given the job."
