SAINTS loanee Maxwel Cornet is reportedly set to join Italian Serie A outfit Genoa, terminating his unsuccessful loan to St Mary's.
Saints and Cornet had both hoped that his stay at the club would come to a premature end this month after making just four appearances.
Cornet was a late signing on deadline day but he has not played a minute in the Premier League since the 3-1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth in September.
The Ivory Coast international has battled fitness issues since he joined West Ham in 2022 and they have continued into his spell on the South Coast.
Saints could only send Cornet back to the Hammers if they agreed to his return, which would have only been likely if he had another destination lined up.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Genoa have verbally agreed to take the 28-year-old, who scored nine Premier League goals in 26 matches for Burnley.
Cornet is set to embark on another loan transfer to work under new boss Patrick Vieira at the side who sit 11th in the top tier of Italian football.
His departure from Saints, which manager Ivan Juric will welcome, would mean they can sign another player from a Premier League club on loan.
Premier League sides are limited to a maximum of two domestic loan spots in their squad with Chelsea's Lesley Ugochukwu currently filling the other.
