EASTLEIGH boss Kelvin Davis insisted he was "really pleased" after Tyrese Shade’s early strike gave them a 1-0 National League victory at promotion-chasing Solihull Moors.

The visitors took a 10th-minute lead after striker Shade got in behind and rounded goalkeeper Killian Barrett before being rewarded for his persistence after his initial attempts to find the back of the net were blocked.

Moors’ midfielder Jamey Osborne saw appeals for a 24th-minute penalty waved away after he had gone down in the box but Barrett had to save from Shade at the other end after a pacy break.

John Bostock blasted over before Conor Wilkinson also cleared the bar from distance as the home side pushed for an equaliser and it took a goal-line block by Shade to deny Fletcher Holman, who then tested keeper Joe McDonnell.

Holman had a chance to snatch a point at the end when he went through on goal but McDonnell was equal to the task to cement victory for the visitors.

"I'm really pleased," said Davis. "We have one or two things going on within the squad. We couldn't fill the bench, which shows where we are at the minute.

"I'm really pleased from that side of it. It was a decent performance, 1-0 away from home against a top seven side. Of course I'm happy. Solihull put on a lot of pressure but Joe only made one save.

"The save came from an error on our part where we have looked to get the ball back to him but it was a shirt back pass. I agree that they had a lot of ball retention.

"But we allowed them to have that and understood that we needed to be disciplined, sit in our pockets and not get picked off.  We took the goal at the right time.

"We had three attempts today, the keeper saves two but one went in. We will take that. This was a night for defensive actions higherup the pitch so we don't overexpose Joe in the goal.

"We are pleased with the work off the ball and the opportunities we had in transition. It's a pleasing night."
