SAINTS will reportedly make 'one more attempt' to get defender Kyle Walker-Peters to extend his contract with the club this month.

Walker-Peters, 27, is in the last six month of his deal at St Mary's and looks set to depart either in the January window or at the end of the season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur defender indicated his desire not to sign extended terms during discussions with the club over the last 12 months.

Former boss Russell Martin admitted he wanted to explore his options and Walker-Peters is already free to talk to clubs abroad about a free transfer.

New Saints manager Ivan Juric told the Daily Echo it is "really important" that the club do not sell Walker-Peters this month in one last chance to cash in.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Saints will make a final attempt to get Walker-Peters to pen a new deal and extend his five-year stay on the South Coast.

The report reiterates that, if he does not ink fresh terms, he will either be sold this month or depart for free once his contract expires in June.

Walker-Peters has made 186 appearances for Saints since joining on loan from Spurs in January 2020 and has been a key man throughout.

He made two England international appearances at Wembley Stadium in March 2022 and was named in the Championship 2023/24 team of the season.

Walker-Peters signed a five-year contract when he first joined the club permanently in July 2020, costing the club a reported £12million transfer fee.

Asked about his future in November, he told the Daily Echo: "I'm a footballer and I want to play. Whilst I'm here at Southampton, I'm enjoying playing.

"It's an extremely special part of my career. They took me from Tottenham and allowed me to become a Premier League regular. I'm forever grateful.

"I hope the fans are also grateful. I've never kicked up a fuss, never refused to play and never thrown any tantrums. I've always tried to give my all for the club."
