SAINTS manager Ivan Juric dubbed Gavin Bazunu an "incredible goalkeeper" following his recovery from a long-term Achilles injury.

Bazunu returned between the sticks on Friday and helped Southampton's under-21s secure a 5-0 Premier League 2 win over second-place Fulham.

Juric and his backroom staff were in attendance at Snows Stadium and coach Dean Thornton was in communication with the shot-stopper at half-time.

Bazunu, who turns 23 next month, had a quiet night but produced a reaction save to ensure he marked his return with a clean sheet.

"From all I saw in training, I think he is an incredible goalkeeper," Juric told the Daily Echo, after former boss Russell Martin suggested a loan could be on the cards.

"I was watching Southampton playing two years ago and he was good. I hope that after playing for the under-21s on Friday, he can become a part of the team."

Bazunu was not registered in the Premier League squad this summer but they can add him should someone another player depart or be unregistered.

Asked if they will address Bazunu's Premier League availability this month, while the registration window is open, Juric said: "We will see."

Bazunu returned to regular training last month following an eight-month layout having ruptured his Achilles tendon ahead of a game against Preston.

Republic of Ireland international Bazunu underwent a successful operation with a top surgeon just 24 hours after rupturing his Achilles tendon at St Mary's.

That allowed him to start rehab training at the earliest possible stage and the Man City product impressed staff at Staplewood with his recovery.

Former boss Martin admitted Bazunu had to be slowed down after jumping ahead of schedule with his rehab, such was his determination to return.
