Does the Trades Description Act apply to football? Normally, when you pay good money for something that is clearly broken, you can get a refund.
Can I have one, please, Southampton FC?
Foolishly, I thought the Spurs game was a low point. Sadly, I was wrong: against Brentford, Saints were lucky not to concede 10.
Dismal doesn’t do it justice. The players should hang their heads in shame. There is something deeply rotten at my beloved Southampton FC. The players don’t seem to care. There is no drive, no commitment, no passion, no aggression. In short, they can’t be bothered.
They ball-watch, they don’t move, they give up. Absolutely inexcusable. Brentford aren’t even that good, but they seemed to have twice as many players as we did—the difference being they ran, they moved, and they wanted it more, making us look static.
The current situation is a recipe for disaster. We don’t look fit, we don’t mark, we never have players available, we are second to every ball, and we are still frightened to risk passing forward.
The manager has to take criticism too for his selection. Sulemana—someone who has contributed nothing all season—hardly deserves a start, and taking Wood off, the only defender worthy of the title, was a serious error. Three full-backs was a masterstroke.
Whatever the reasons for that abject display against Brentford, the fans have suffered enough. If this season were a boxing match, the ref would surely put us out of our misery and call a halt.
Please, players, don’t treat us supporters with utter contempt. Show some pride, put in a bit of effort, and look like you care, which is not how it felt on Saturday.
