SAINTS interim boss Simon Rusk is set to face the media for the first time today ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.

Rusk, 43, will host the first Saints press conference since former manager Russell Martin was sacked from St Mary's Stadium at 3pm on Tuesday.

UEFA Pro Licence holder Rusk, who has coached at Brighton and England's youth teams, arrived at Staplewood in the summer to head the under-21s.

His only prior spell in the senior game was at National League Stockport County in 2020/21, where he led the side to the play-offs with an 18-match unbeaten run.

Saints have yet to confirm who will make up Rusk's backroom team for the last-eight cup clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Former Premier League winger Matthew Etherington is the current under-21s assistant and Ryan Flood works as the goalkeeper coach.

Player Adam Lallana has coaching experience, having worked with England's under-21s, and may be asked to step into a dugout capacity this week.

Rusk is on standby ready to prepare for Sunday's visit to Fulham in the league but Saints could appoint Martin's permanent replacement this week.

Martin was sacked by Sport Republic, with Saints at the bottom of the Premier League with just five points from 16 matches, suffering 13 defeats.

The Daily Echo will bring full updates from Rusk's first press conference on our website and social media channels in the aftermath of the event.
