FORMER Saints assistant Danny Rohl began the day as a strong favourite to be the next manager but more potential targets have been linked.
Saints consider Rohl among their top targets but media reports throughout the day suggested official contact is yet to have been made.
It is thought the compensation package required to prise Rohl from Sheffield Wednesday is a potential stumbling block for any club pursuing the German.
Press local to the Midlands have claimed Saints have long been admirers of West Brom boss and former Leeds United assistant Carlos Corberan.
TalkSPORT then reported that Saints have a long-standing interest in Kasper Hjulmand, with the Dane open to taking a job in the Premier League.
Saints are on the lookout for a new man after Russell Martin was sacked with the club bottom of the Premier League on five points from 16 matches.
The Daily Echo listed both Corberan and Hjulmand in their managerial shortlist following the sacking of Martin, which occurred on Sunday evening.
An article from Turkey claimed former Cardiff City boss Erol Bulut was in contention but we understand there is nothing in those reports.
