TWO foreign coaches who would not require any compensation are reportedly under consideration to become the new Saints boss.

The St Mary's side are looking to appoint a new permanent manager after Russell Martin was sacked following a 5-0 defeat to Spurs on Sunday.

Saints are bottom of the Premier League and nine points adrift of safety, having lost 13 of their 16 matches and won just one so far this season.

Under-21s coach Simon Rusk will lead the team on an interim basis until a new appointment is made, the club's statement confirmed.

Sky Sports report that Sheffield Wednesday's Danny Rohl is under consideration but no approach has been made to the Championship club.

They add that two other foreign coaches are being considered, with no compensation due for these coaches, suggesting they are out of work.

Saints could favour an appointment that requires minimal compensation, given their situation amidst Profit and sustainability rules.

The report did not name or offer any hints as to who the two foreign coaches are but two potential managers we shortlisted fit the bill.

Former Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand departed his post in July, while Frenchman Julien Stéphan was sacked from his role at Rennes last month.

Sport Republic want to make a long-term appointment that will bring a clear, similar style of play but with the flexibility to embrace new ideas.

Saints take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup quarter-final at St Mary's on Wednesday, with Rusk expected to deliver a press conference on Tuesday.
