MANAGER Russell Martin admitted he has "no clue" about his Saints future but insists he will "keep working" until he is told not to.

Saints sit bottom of the Premier League table with just five points from 16 matches, having been beaten in 13 of those outings.

Tottenham ran riot on the South Coast with a 5-0 win only increasing the pressure on Martin, who was subjected to embarrassing chants from the fans.

The supporters inside St Mary's sang, 'We want Martin out' and, 'Sacked in the morning' to the boss, who stood abject on the touchline.

Asked for his response, he told the Daily Echo: "I have no response really. The fans have been amazing for us since we've been here from day one.

"I understand the frustration. I also understand the modern world and football and what it is and what it's about. So apart from that, I have no real response."

And probed whether he thinks he will remain in the post, Martin responded: "Not a clue, no. Not a clue. You're speaking to the wrong man.

"I've done nothing but fight on in my life and my career so we'll keep working and keep fighting until I'm told I'm not going to anymore."

Martin insisted the criticism does not affect him personally, although he headed straight down the tunnel at full-time rather than face the fans.

"I don't think I win at that point in any way. So yeah, I went straight down the tunnel to get myself ready to talk to you guys," Martin explained.

"As a person, it doesn't affect me very much. When I put my ego into it as a manager, it hurts a lot because you work so hard every single day.

"But it's not personal. I don't know them. They don't know me. So it's a criticism of the job I'm doing. I understand.

"I don't think you can criticise a person when you don't know them. It's a criticism of the job I am doing. Of course, that hurts because you work so hard."
