SAINTS fan favourite Maya Yoshida captained LA Galaxy to the MLS Cup, the first club title of his career.

LA Galaxy produced a 2-1 win over New York Red Bulls on Saturday to claim the sixth MLS title in the club's history.

Yoshida, 36, spent time training with Russell Martin's squad last season to maintain his fitness levels heading into the 2024 campaign.

The former Japan captain played 39 times this season, scoring twice for an LA Galaxy side which also features former Saints defender Martin Caceres.

Speaking after the win, Yoshida said: "I came here last summer and the club expected me to bring some experience and some spirit. Last season was a huge disappointment.

"I'm very proud to be a part of this group. Thanks to the fans who waited a very long time and to the staff who worked a lot."
