Kevin Pietersen held talks with Hampshire Cricket surrounding its takeover by GMR, the club chairman has revealed.

Today it has been announced that co-owners of the Dehli Capitals, GMR Group, had acquired Hampshire County Cricket Club for a fee believed to be around £120m.

Hampshire chairman, Rod Bransgrove told journalists in a press conference on Monday afternoon that former England and Hampshire batsman, Kevin Pietersen – who also spent time playing for Dehli Daredevils (now Dehli Capitals) had held conversations with the club prior to the takeover being finalised.

Bransgrove said: “I know that Kevin takes an ambassadorial role for GMR, we’ve certainly spoken to him once or twice and he’s been very interested in the potential for this.

“He knows the GMR culture, he knows our culture and that they’re very well suited to each other. So, yes in that respect he has been involved.”

Pietersen, who formerly captained the England Test team, played for Hampshire between 2005 and 2010.
