SAINTS visit Brentford fuelled by frustration off the back of two 1-0 defeats to start their 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

The Bees have ran out 3-0 winners in both of the last two meetings between the two sides, in matches that were the death knell of two managers.

Boss Russell Martin is not under that pressure but took responsibility for picking the wrong tactical set-up in last weekend's loss to Nottingham Forest.

A 5-3 midweek win at Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup has given him plenty to think about - but does he trust his original starters once more?

Here is how we think Saints will line up at Brentford...

Goalkeeper

Alex McCarthy impressed against Nottingham Forest but mega-signing Aaron Ramsdale will surely come straight into the side.

Defenders

Martin will want all three of his centre-backs in so he could start Jack Stephens, Jan Bednarek and Taylor Harwood-Bellis in defence again.

Yukinari Sugawara starts again at right-back while Kyle Walker-Peters remains Southampton's best player beyond the transfer deadline.

Midfielders

Flynn Downes has been the most impressive of the midfield three in the first two league matches and is the most nailed in midfield.

However, Will Smallbone and Joe Aribo could be given another chance to impress after the home defeat to Nottingham Forest - with bench options available.

Attackers

Adam Armstrong and Ben Brereton Diaz have been put under pressure by two-goal Cameron Archer but should retain their places this weekend.

This makes it an unchanged outfield but Martin will tweak the positions of the two forwards and some players are already at risk of losing their place.

Full predicted team

Ramsdale; Sugawara, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Stephens, Walker-Peters; Downes, Smallbone, Aribo; Armstrong, Brereton Diaz.
