SAINTS have been charged by the Football Association with "misconduct in relation to crowd control" during their Championship play-off semi-final victory over West Brom last season.

Supporters invaded the pitch following Southampton's 3-1 win on May 17 with some fans clashing with people in the West Brom end.

Russell Martin felt that a small section of supporters "let themselves down" after the club reached the Championship play-off final.

Hampshire police later confirmed that three people were arrested after the incident at St Mary's.

A statement from the FA said: "Southampton have been charged with misconduct in relation to crowd control at their EFL Championship game against West Bromwich Albion on Friday 17 May.

"It's alleged that the club failed to ensure its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion and don't behave in an improper, threatening or provocative way; and/or throw missiles or other potentially harmful or dangerous objects towards the pitch; and/or comment any form of pitch; and/or commit any form of pitch incursion."

Southampton have been given until Thursday, August 8 to provide a response to the FA.
