SAINTS are reportedly discussing midfielder Shea Charles going to Celtic on loan with an option to buy as part of a Matt O'Riley deal.
The St Mary's side have continued to pursue a transfer for Denmark international O'Riley to bolster their midfield ahead of the Premier League.
O'Riley, 23, who played for Russell Martin at MK Dons, scored 19 goals and provided 15 assists for the Scottish champions last season.
The Sun have reported that discussions are still taking place over a deal to bring him to the south coast, with the possibility of a player heading the other way.
Former Man City youth captain Charles, 20, has been named as potentially moving to Celtic Park on loan with an option to make the deal permanent.
Saints signed the youngster for a fee worth around £12million last summer and he went on to make 32 Championship appearances.
Charles has played a regular role during pre-season fixtures and an exit would leave £18million signing Flynn Downes without adequate cover.
Martin could use Will Smallbone in the midfield six role after appearances last campaign, despite limited success in those matches.
The report also details that Villarreal striker Ben Brereton Diaz underwent his Saints medical in Winchester on Monday, ahead of a £7million move.
Saints will reportedly look to add another striker after the 25 year old Chilean international pens a four-year deal at St Mary's.
