SAINTS players have taken to social media to commend supporters for their "incredible" support during their 3-1 win over West Brom, which saw them reach the Championship playoff final.

Academy graduate Will Smallbone set Saints on course to reach the final when he cracked a long-range shot past Alex Palmer after a great give-and-go with David Brooks.

Adam Armstrong then continued his brilliant goalscoring form when he drilled into the bottom corner before converting a third from the penalty spot to round out the win.

West Brom's Cedric Kipre scored a late consolation goal, but that did not divert Southampton from their course to Wembley.

Here is how some Saints players have reacted on social media after their brilliant win on Friday evening...

Defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis posted: "One to go! (The) atmosphere was a different level. See you at Wembley, Saints!"

On Saturday, Ryan Fraser took to Instagram to write: "Saints fans you were all incredible last night. Arriving on the team bus and stepping onto the pitch yesterday to your support is something I’ll never forget. One last big push at Wembley to get where we all want this club to be! See you next week."

Goalscorer Smallbone said: "Some night! One more to go, see you at Wembley."

A slew of teammates congratulated the Irish international on his important goal with Shea Charles, Alex McCarthy and Sam Edozie among those who responded.

Smallbone's former teammate in the academy Nathan Tella, who has recently won the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, commented: "Brought tears to my eyes."
