MANAGER Russell Martin admitted there was "no point" risking Che Adams after he suffered a knock at Leeds United.
Adams was withdrawn early in the second half at Elland Road, where Saints won 2-1 on the final day, having received treatment.
Adam Armstrong opened the scoring but Joel Piroe hit back minutes later. Midfielder Will Smallbone then grabbed the winner before the break.
Kamaldeen Sulemana came on to replace the injured Scotland international before summer signing Ross Stewart also entered later in the second half.
Speaking to the Daily Echo straight after the morale-boosting win, Martin said: "He felt a bit of tightness.
"There is no point carrying on and risking him after that. I think he will be alright. Thankfully we also had Ross Stewart to bring on today, which was really amazing for us."
Adams was nominated for April's Championship player of the month award having scored six goals in six games last month.
The 27 year old, who is out of contract at the end of the campaign, has finished the regular season with 15 Championship goals.
Adams is hopeful of being Scotland's starting striker when they face Germany in this summer's European Championship opening game.
