WINGER Ryan Fraser believes Saints can catch Leicester City despite being 13 points behind in the race for the Championship title.

Southampton are currently third in the division - three points outside the automatic promotion spots.

Ipswich Town, with whom Fraser spent the 2015-16 season on loan, sit one place above the St Mary's side, but Fraser has eyes on the league leaders.

Leicester have only lost three league games this season and are in the midst of their own 10-game league unbeaten run.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Fraser said: “I think if we aim for Leicester we can honestly catch them.

“Some people might think they are too far ahead of us, but if we can prolong this streak the points will start to come down before you know it.

“Ipswich is the focus. It’s such a footballer thing to say, but if we have to take each game at a time.

“If you look at how many points we have gained on Ipswich then we have a great chance if we keep doing that.”

Russell Martin's side are back in action on Saturday when they face Sheffield Wednesday, now coached by former Saints assistant Danny Rohl.

They could match the club's longest unbeaten run record since joining the Football League in 1920 by avoiding defeat at St Mary's.

Southampton face Leicester at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, March 16 - the final game before the international break.

Saints are back on the road two weeks later to face Ipswich Town on Monday, April 1 in what will be a crucial period in the season.
