SAINTS now know their fixture list ahead of the 2023-24 Championship season – and will get their season underway against newly promoted Sheffield Wednesday.
This season will see Southampton face Plymouth for the first time since their League One days, while a September clash with Rotherham will be both sides' first league meeting since the 1960s.
Saints came out on top the last time they faced 14 out of the 23 teams in the Championship this season.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at what happened the last time Southampton faced all the teams in the second tier.
Sheffield Wednesday v Saints – Friday, August 4
Saints get their season underway with a Friday night Championship curtain raiser against Sheffield Wednesday on August 4.
The two sides last met in the EFL Cup last season, with Southampton advancing to the round of 16 following a 6-5 victory on penalties.
Saints v Norwich – Saturday, August 12
Russell Martin’s first competitive match in the St Mary’s dugout is against Norwich City, a club he spent nine years at during his playing career.
You won’t have to cast your mind back too far to remember the last time Saints took on The Canaries – Che Adams and Oriol Romeu scoring as they won 2-0 in 2022.
Plymouth Argyle v Saints – Saturday, August 19
This season will see Saints renew rivalries with Plymouth Arygle for the first time since 2011 when both teams were plying their trade in League One.
Rickie Lambert scored twice to help Southampton record a 3-1 win the last time they travelled to Home Park.
Saints v QPR – Saturday, August 26
Southampton completed a league double the last time they found themselves in the same division as Queens Park Rangers.
A last minute winner from Sadio Mane saw Ronald Koeman’s side maintain their third placed position in February, 2015.
Sunderland v Saints – Saturday, September 2
A Manolo Gabbiadini brace followed by a Jason Denayer own goal and a Shane Long strike saw Southampton thrash Sunderland 4-0 in February 2017.
Saints v Leicester – Saturday, September 16
Much like Saints, Leicester are preparing for life in the Championship again after they were relegated from the Premier League last season.
A double was achieved against The Foxes last time around with the most recent of those wins coming thanks to a first half goal from Charly Alcaraz.

Saints v Ipswich – Tuesday, September 19
The 2014-15 FA Cup Third Round marked the last occasion Saints were paired with Ipswich Town for a competitive fixture.
A 1-1 draw at St Mary’s sent the tie to a reply at Portman Road where Shane Long scored the only goal as Saints progressed to the next round.
Middlesborough v Saints – Saturday, September 23
Saints last came up against Middlesbrough during the 2016-17 Premier League season, when they finished in eighth place under Claude Puel.
Goals from Nathan Redmond and Jay Rodriguez helped Southampton to record their final win of the season.
Saints v Leeds – Saturday, September 30
Southampton will take on Leeds United at St Mary’s for the first time since both sides relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.
Junior Firpo’s second half goal saw Javi Gracia’s Leeds take all three points in Ruben Selles’ second game as interim boss.
Stoke v Saints – Tuesday, October 2
Martin’s Southampton will discover whether they can do it on a potentially-cold Tuesday night at Stoke in their first fixture of October.
A win would see Saints end their four game winless streak against The Potters, with the last fixture in 2018 ending in a 0-0 draw.
Saints v Rotherham United - Saturday, October 10
The final game week before the October international period will see Southampton host Rotherham United at St Mary’s.
The game will mark the first time Southampton have faced the South Yorkshire club since their League Cup tie in September 2008, which Rotherham won 3-1.
Both sides last came up against each other in a league game back in 1966 when Saints drew 1-1.
Hull City v Saints - Saturday, October 21
Saints are scheduled to face Hull City at the MKM Stadium, with the last time the two teams faced each other being back in April 2017 in a 0-0 draw at St Mary's.
Preston North End v Saints - Wednesday, October 25
Southampton will travel to Preston North End hoping to continue their three game winning run against the club, the last match coming in the EFL Cup in 2011 with Adam Lallana scoring the winner in a 2-1 home win.
Saints v Birmingham City – Saturday, October 28
It's been a similarly long time since Saints faced Birmingham City.
The last occasion was at St Marys in 2011 with the home side winning 4-1, when they were last in the Championship.
Millwall v Saints – Saturday, November 4
Southampton picked up a 2-0 victory when they travelled to The Den in 2014 as Graziano Pelle scored for Ronald Koeman’s men in the EFL Cup.
Saints v West Bromwich Albion – Saturday, November 11
Saints and West Brom’s most recent encounter came towards the end of the 2020/21 season, with the game being played behind closed doors due to covid restrictions.
The baggies came out 3-0 winners at the Hawthorns, however that would not be enough to secure Sam Allardyce’s men safety.
Huddersfield Town v Saints – Saturday, November 25
The third round of the 2020 FA Cup was the last time these two sides faced off with the Saints picking up a 2-0 home victory.
Ralph Hassenhuttl was in charge at the time with two academy graduates, Will Smallbone and Jake Vokins both on the scoresheet.

Saints v Bristol City – Wednesday, November 29
It will have been over 10 years since Saints last faced Bristol City by the time this November fixture rolls around.
The last occasion being a third round of the EFL Cup in 2013/14 where Southampton came out 2-0 winners.
Gaston Ramirez and Jos Hooiveld were the goal scorers in a team which included former fan favourite Guly Do Prado and current club captain James Ward-Prowse.
Saints v Cardiff City – Saturday, December 2
Southampton have lost their last three matches against Cardiff City with the last fixture coming in the 2018/19 Premier League campaign.
Cardiff came out 2-1 winners in an entertaining match where two goals were scored in injury time - Kenneth Zohore scoring the winner two minutes after Jack Stephens had equalised.
Watford v Saints – Saturday, December 9
It wasn’t too long ago these two sides were facing each other in the Premier League with the most recent tie coming towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
Cucho Hernandez was on hand to score a brace against the Saints in a 2-1 victory for Watford.
Coventry City v Saints – Wednesday, December 13
Saints have won their previous four matches against Coventry City including a 2-1 victory at St Mary's in the fourth round of the 2021/22 FA Cup.
Kyle Walker-Peters scored the winner in extra time on that occasion.
Saints v Blackburn Rovers – Saturday, December 16
You’ll have to go all the way back to 2005 for the last time these two sides played one another.
Southampton were defeated 3-0 at Ewood Park with Morten Gamst Pederson among the goals.
Saints starting line-up included Peter Crouch and Jamie Redknapp, it also proved to be the club's last season in the Premier League for 7 years after they finished bottom of the table.
Saints v Swansea City – Tuesday, December 26
Russell Martin will face his former side on boxing day in what could be a heated match at St Marys.
Swansea are currently unhappy with the compensation fee they received for Martin and have pledged to 'get what they are owed.'

The South Coast side avoided relegation at the Liberty Stadium back in 2018 after claiming a 1-0 victory following a goal from Manolo Gabbiadini.
The result proved to be fatal in the end for Swansea who were relegated that year and haven’t returned to the top flight since.
The two sides last faced off against each other in a FA Cup Third Round fixture behind closed doors, which Southampton won 3-2 in extra time.
