EASTLEIGH saw off Football League opposition at the Silverlake on Saturday, with Danny Whitehall’s fifth strike of pre-season enough to separate the Spitfires from League Two Swindon Town.
It took the hosts just nine minutes to open scores, with Whitehall on hand to turn home Tristan Abrahams’ cut-back from the by-line.
Spitfires enjoyed the better chances in the first half, with Charlie Carter dancing through the Robins’ defence before providing a lofted pass for Abrahams.
Unfortunately for Lee Bradbury’s men, Abrahams could only send his effort into the arms of Swindon goalkeeper Lewis Ward.
Welsh international Jonny Williams came closest for the away side shortly after the half-hour mark, drawing a decent stop from Eastleigh custodian Joe McDonnell.
That was the final notable event in the first half, with the second period providing a disjointed showing as both sides made numerous changes over the course of the final 45 minutes.
Swindon’s Harry McKirdy came closest to restoring parity five minutes after the restart when he tried his luck from distance, but once again McDonnell was equal to the effort.
Whilst Eastleigh controlled possession in the second-half, it was Swindon who probed for the game’s next goal, but unfortunately for the EFL side, an equaliser was not forthcoming, allowing the hosts to record a third win of their pre-season campaign.
