WOLVES Women’s bid for promotion in their play-off final with Saints tomorrow will be hampered by the fact their manager will not be in the dugout.
Despite both sides winning their respective league titles, only one side can be promoted from the women’s third tier, causing the two champions to go head-to-head at Stockport County’s Edgeley Park in a winners take all clash.
Dan McNamara has a very good reason for missing what has been billed as the biggest game in both club’s fledgling history, as he has been called up for duty with the Royal Air Force.
A Corporal with 14 years’ service for his country, McNamara has had to make arrangements in order to watch a live stream whilst on a mission in an undisclosed location.
Revealing all in an interview with BBC Sport, McNamara stated: "One thing you'll never take away from me is being able to follow the girls.
“It is not something I would ever allow to happen and it will be the same this Saturday.”
"The club have been fantastic and they have helped me deal with a really emotional time.
“I was provided with a private stream for the cup final and I was in contact with the bench. That will happen again this weekend."
The absence of McNamara was not an issue for Wolves as they lifted the Birmingham County Cup against West Brom last time out.
"Seeing the success the girls have had the last two weeks is really tough to watch because I want to be there, sharing those moments with them,” continued the 41-year-old.
“That's why Saturday will be one of the most difficult days of my life.
"I've had some nice messages, like 'that one was for you' after the cup final.
“The players have turned it into a positive. They know how much it means to me but they know they don't need me this weekend to have success."
