BROCKENHURST and Hamble secured their places in the Russell-Cotes Benevolent Cup final last night.
The two Wessex Premier sides will now face each other at Brockenhurst’s Meadens Skoda Arena on Tuesday, May 3.
Hamble were taken all the way by lower league Eversley & California, with penalties required after a 2-2 draw in regular time.
Eversley opened the scores through Harinder Singh Hunjan’s effort that was hit first-time on the swivel after 17 minutes.
Despite the divisional gap between the two sides, Hamble struggled to peg back their visitors.
The hosts left it late to mount a comeback, equalising on 75 minutes.
Hamble were awarded a penalty after a free-kick struck the hand of a Eversley defender, allowing Clayd Roach the opportunity to convert from the spot.
Three minutes later the comeback was completed, when Lewis Nagle’s long-range drive flew past Boars ‘keeper Henry Pidgeon.
However, the game was forced to penalties by Eversley when Luke Frewin got on the end of a Joe Pantony cross in the 88th minute.
Hamble custodian Callum Lee made two stops in the shoot-out to ensure his side won on penalties 4-3.
Hamble: Lee, Burgess, Wilson, Wilkins, Kitcher, Ghosh (Gange, 79), Nagle, Ovington, McClean, Crook (Roach, h-t), Ingledaw-Coak (Green, 69)
Unused subs: Shrimpton, Robinson
• Pat McManus’ Brock side managed to advance within 90 minutes, edging past divisional rivals Moneyfields 1-0 thanks to a Mitchell Speechley-Price header.
Speechley-Price’s 53rd minute goal was enough to see off managerless Moneys, with their boss Glenn Turnbull serving the first of a three-match stadium ban.
With a hectic end to the season ahead due to deep runs in the Russell-Coates Cup, Southampton Senior Cup and FA Vase, there was slight rotation from Brockenhurst’s last fixture.
Starting ‘keeper James Mayo dropped to the bench allowing Matthew Taylor to don the gloves for the fifth time this season, whilst eventual matchwinner Speechley-Price was also restored to the starting line-up.
The home side struggled to break down their guests in the opening 45 minutes, only finding a way through eight minutes into the second period.
After the opener, it was Brockenhurst’s turn to weather the storm, withstanding Moneyfields' attempts to find an equaliser.
Brockenhurst: Taylor, Ings, Wilson, Moore, Chamberlain, Yang, O’Donnell (Sheedy, 78), Haynes, Obeng, Ward, Speechley-Price.
Unused subs: Sykes, Mayo (g/k), Dukes, Pomeroy
