A CO-OWNER of a Hampshire golf club is set to play 24 hours straight of golf to raise money for a colleague with cancer.
Today at 6pm, Pablo Hazell will tee off at Ampfield Golf Club in Romsey as he begins 24 hours straight of golf.
Pablo, who lives in Chandler’s Ford and is the co-owner and director of the golf club is doing this to raise money for a colleague, Nikki Fowler, who is currently battling cancer.
Nikki has worked at the golf club for the past seven years as the function and golf manager, but around seven months ago she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given only three months to live by doctors.
The mum of two who is in her 50s is due to attend the golf course at around 6pm tomorrow as Pablo completes his last hole.
The co-owner of the club estimated that throughout the challenge, he will complete 14 rounds of golf and explained that he has never done anything like this before.
He added: “Nicky is genuinely one of the nicest people. Martin, her partner, is a professional here as well. For me it was a no brainer to try and do it and I said I really want to try and raise some money.
“It’s a long time to walk for 24 hours but hopefully the golf will be a distraction. It’s more mental for me.
“I think once I break through the night time, with everyone coming back on to the course that will push me forward.”
A JustGiving page has been set up for the challenge which has currently raised £1,960 of Pablo’s £2,000 target.
The majority of the money is due to be donated to Nikki so that she can use it to pay for treatments or anything else that she needs.
The rest will be used to buy golf sets to allow children to have access to golf like Pablo did when he was younger.
Pablo who is 43, added: “Nikki’s been really important to us as a family as it’s a family owned business and she was integral to everything that we’ve done here.
“I’ll keep the page open as long as I’m allowed to try and get as much as I can in. I’m so grateful to anyone who’s donated.”
