AFTER 14 years serving in various key positions at New Forest Golf Club, Ivor Griffiths has stepped down from his remaining roles as secretary and press officer of the seniors’ section.
In 2007, Griffiths was appointed head of marketing and director for NFGC, a role he enjoyed for 10 years during which time, with his wife Lesley, he was instrumental in the design and development of the club website which received many accolades.
Griffiths has won many trophies in his time at New Forest including five-times winner and five-times runner-up of the seniors championship, and winter league winner three years running with his playing partner Mick Wheeler. Ivor can also claim three holes-in-one, all at NFGC.
Ivor first showed his natural sporting abilities as captain of his school football team, playing for Middlesex County in the mid-1960s and later selected by Brentford Football Club to train with their professional squad for three years and still retains a keen interest in his support of the Bees.
When lockdown was temporarily suspended, following a socially-distanced game of golf, seniors captain Ian Coundon presented Griffiths with a framed caricature portrait depicting some of his many interests including his MGB, football, ballroom dancing, keyboard playing and of course, golf.
