Brits are being encouraged to invest in effective security measures such as alarms, lighting and security cameras to prevent summer break-ins.

If you’re jetting off on holiday this summer, then it’s key to make sure your is secure.

Empty homes can be the perfect target for burglaries if you’re set to be away for a few days or longer – with the average cost of damage being around £3,000.

The garden lighting experts at LightingLegends.com are advising on the importance of using lights as a form of security while being away from home.

How do motion sensor lights work?

Motion sensor lights illuminate driveways and gardens with any sign of movement, causing thieves to think twice about entering.

Not only does it make them more vulnerable and visible to neighbours, bystanders and security cameras, but it also suggests that someone could be home.

Jon Saeed, managing director of LightingLegends.com, said: “Unfortunately over the summer months, thieves take advantage of the fact that a lot of families and homeowners are likely to be away on holiday and break-ins around this time often increase.

“To make sure your home is secure there are a few measures you can take including installing alarm systems and CCTV cameras.

“Motion sensor lights are another great tool to have to up the security on your property, deterring potential thieves looking to break into homes and cars.”

Are motion sensor lights hard to install?

Motion sensor lights can be battery or solar-powered and are usually easy to install and require no wiring.

“The second your lights detect movement and light up your garden or driveway, thieves will feel more exposed and are more likely to flee the scene.

"It’s also likely to catch them off guard," Mr Saeed continued.

Where to place motion sensor lights

Motion security lights can be put on sheds and summerhouses in the garden as well as the home and they’re a great way to further protect your property.

Mr Saeed added: “Investing in small measures like these will help keep your home secure for a lifetime, not just over the summer.”
