Coronation Street is a popular soap opera in the UK with many Brits engrossed in the ongoing drama of the show.
While some viewers will have their favourite characters on the cobbles, it’s time to say goodbye to some of the cast as they move on and leave the show.
From Sue Cleaver to Katy Cavanagh, some of the soap’s most well-known faces are leaving this year.
Coronation Street stars set to leave soap in 2025
The Radio Times has collated the soap stars who are leaving Coronation Street in 2025 – let’s take a look.
Sue Cleaver
Soap legend Sue Cleaver who plays the role of Eileen Grimshaw will leave the show in spring this year.
In January, Cleaver said she was leaving the ITV soap after 25 years to step outside her “comfort zone” and “do something new”.
Opening up about her departure, she told the panel on ITV’s Loose Women: “I’m now 61 and I feel I’m now at a stage in my life, like most mums we have responsibilities, we have other things we have to consider [and] we’re bringing up our families.
“And I’ve got to the stage, my son is grown up now, he’s 29, I have no responsibilities left and I want to do something new.
“I want this decade to be about me. I really want to empower other women. Society at this point wants us all to shuffle off, don’t they. Just go away quietly, ‘you’ve had your days’.
“No, this is my decade. I’m more excited about this decade, hopefully you know, as long as I remain well, that this is going to be the most exciting decade for me. I’m really excited.
“There have been moments of fear about stepping outside your comfort zone, but I strongly believe that only good things happen, nothing good happens if you don’t step out of your comfort zone.”
Katy Cavanagh
While Katy Cavanagh returned to the cobbles as Julie Carp, Eileen Grimshaw’s half-sister, in February but it was revealed that she is terminally ill, leaving viewers wondering when she’ll leave the cobbles again.
The Radio Times said: “Will Julie die on the cobbles surrounded by her loved ones, or could she depart to live out her final days with sister Eileen elsewhere?”
Colson Smith
Also leaving the soap in 2025 is Colson Smith as PC Craig Tinker.
Colson was told in August 2024 that his character would be axed from Coronation Street.
"Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinkers time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025," he shared on Instagram.
"I've loved every single second of my 14-year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street."
Smith continued: "I've learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I'm excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is just the end of the beginning.
"I genuinely can't wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. Long live the cobbles!"
The Radio Times said that reports suggest Craig Tinker will be killed off later this year.
Joe Layton
Coronation Street's Joe Layton has reportedly quit the ITV soap just months after joining.
Reports suggest that Layton, who plays Mick Michaelis, will be departing the show with his role thought to have been only temporary.
Layton first joined Coronation Street for a special storyline which saw no "shock" exit planned as The Mirror reports that Mick will be on ITV screens until late July, hinting that there is "lots more to come".
Charlotte Jordan
Also leaving the soap is Charlotte Jordan, known for her role as Daisy Midgeley.
She will leave Coronation Street this summer “to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities”.

Charlotte said: “My time at Coronation Street is something I will always cherish.
“It’s been a privilege to be part of a wonderful institution with even more wonderful colleagues who have taught me so much.
“After a brilliant four years for Daisy on the street, it’s time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities.”
It’s uncertain if Charlotte’s Corrie exit will be a happy ending.
