With the summer months nearly upon us, you may want to renew your British passport.

However, the time it takes to acquire one of these travel documents can worry some, especially those who are only a few short weeks from jetting off.

What are the current wait times for renewing a UK passport?

According to the HM Passport Office, "you’ll usually get your passport within three weeks."

The department adds that it may take longer than three weeks if more information is required or if an interview is needed. 

The turnaround time will normally take longer if you're applying from a different country.

How much will passport prices increase this April?

These are the proposed price changes for passport applications from April 10, according to the British Government.

  • Standard online applications made from within the UK will rise from £88.50 to £94.50 for adults and £57.50 to £61.50 for children.
  • Postal applications will increase from £100 to £107 for adults and £69 to £74 for children.
  • Premium Service (1 day) applications made from within in the UK will rise from £207.50 to £222 for adults and £176.50 to £189 for children.
  • Standard online applications from overseas will rise from £101 to £108 for adults and £65.50 to £70 for children.
  • Overseas standard paper applications will increase from £112.50 to £120.50 for adults and £77 to £82.50 for children.
