Worthing couple take on 'floating home' in Grand Designs
Designer Sarah and architect Howard have worked together for 30 years and now plan to take on what Kevin is calling one of Grand Design's most "ambitious self-building projects" yet.
The pair want to build a "sleek, angled, metallic floating home" on the estuary nearby Worthing by dismantling a Second World War landing craft.
The home is designed to look like a boat, to fit within the houseboat community, with the structure sitting on an "experimental prefabricated polystyrene slab to deal with high tides" according to the Radio Times.
To complete their Grand Design, the pair have a budget of £385,000 with a schedule of 18 months.

The pair plan to do as much of the work they can themselves, however, the build gets off to a very troublesome and slow start.
They are tasked with carefully removing a condemned D-Day landing craft on the plot before they can start the build while facing the constant tidal changes that create near disaster for the build.
Grand Designs is on Channel 4 on Wednesday evenings at 9pm and is available to stream on All4.
