Expert shares boiler faults you need to watch out for

The expert has shared five signs that your boiler isn’t in full working order.

Leaks

According to the expert, boiler leaks are a "major issue" that can result in significant damage and expensive repairs of between £100 to £500.

These can arise as a consequence of component failure, high water pressure or harmed interior components.

Even the most minor of these leaks can consume large amounts of water, increasing your expenses.

No hot water

A lack of hot water is a very obvious sign that there is an issue, often suggesting low boiler pressure, a malfunctioning thermostat and/or diverter valve failure.

Unusual sounds

The expert states that loud "clattering" or "whistling" noises in your home could be a hint that your boiler is broken.

This may indicate that there is trapped air or loose parts in the installation, issues that can cost hundreds of pounds to fix.

Bad smells

The off-putting smells of metal or rotten eggs may indicate a possible gas leak.

If this smell is strong, the expert advises that you vacate your home and get hold of a gas-safe engineer.

Depending on the seriousness of the leak, repairs could cost anywhere between £300 and £500.

Persistent loss of boiler pressure

The expert says: "Persistent pressure loss is a sign of complications, such as leaks or malfunctioning pressure relief valves.

"This may result in inefficient heating and potential boiler component damage.

"Repressurising can be a short-term fix, generally costing between £75 to £100. However, in order to identify and address the root reason for persistent pressure loss, a professional examination is crucial."
