Easter is not too far away now and many people will want to make the most of the season to enjoy some Easter eggs.

The likes of Cadbury and Nestlé are well-known for their offerings and have been mainstays for decades on supermarket shelves.

However, Easter eggs can be quite expensive as a whole and there are some other competitors hoping to provide a decent alternative to the heavyweights, with one of those being Aldi.

The supermarket chain has created a new set of Easter eggs to add to its range, contributing some unique creations.

One of these is the Dairyfine Curious Inventions Egg (£3.99) which comes in milk and white chocolate.

Meanwhile, the other unique offering is the Dairyfine Bubble Tea (£7.99) which stretches the definition of what an Easter egg is.

Cadbury Easter eggs are always a favourite of mine so I was intrigued to see if Aldi's new creations could pull off a miracle and provide a better taste experience.

I tried Aldi's new Easter egg range

Dairyfine Curious Inventions Egg (Milk Chocolate)

First up there was the milk chocolate version of the Dairyfine Curious Inventions egg.

The Dairyfine Curious Inventions Bar has been popular at Aldi for a little while now and it's been shifted into egg form.

The milk chocolate shell is loaded with popping candy, chocolate beans and cherry jellies to add a bit extra to the regular Easter egg.

My version arrived a bit broken up on route to my home sadly, but the taste was still decent.

The popping candy in particular stays with you for some time, making it feel a like a proper explosion in the mouth.

Dairyfine Curious Inventions Egg (White Chocolate)

The white chocolate version of the Curious Inventions was up next and was similar in taste and style to the milk chocolate variety.

While I like white chocolate it's never been my preference over milk or dark, but the egg still works quite well.

The one thing that let it down was how dense some sections of the egg were with the chocolate beans and cherry jellies.

Some sections of the egg had barely anything in them, while some bits were so dense you couldn't break them apart with your hands.

I could imagine that being a bit of trouble for children trying to eat it as I had to just bite through it and hope for the best.

Dairyfine Bubble Tea (Strawberry)

This was the item I was most curious to try, having not really seen anything like it before.

For those who aren't a fan of Bubble Tea, you don't have to worry, as there are no similarities in terms of taste.

What you get is a hollow chocolate cup filled with chocolate malt balls, marshmallows and a rock candy straw.

The chocolate making up the cup is a strawberry and milk chocolate blend which I wasn't sure about at first but eventually grew to like.

Meanwhile, the strawberry marshmallows were quite brilliant, while the malt balls at the bottom and the rock were just okay.

Dairyfine Bubble Tea (Mango)

I finished off the taste test with the other Bubble Tea confection, which this time was made up with a blend of mango and white chocolate.

While the strawberry blend grew on me, this sadly didn't and is the only reason this version is getting a lower score.

Otherwise, the peach marshmallows inside were great, with the other aspects having been the same as before.

The verdict

Overall, I think the new Aldi Easter eggs were fairly decent, but couldn't really hold a candle to Cadbury's finest.

The Dairyfine Curious Inventions Egg is definitely quite tasty but the density of some sections does mark it down a little.

Meanwhile, the Dairyfine Bubble Tea confections are solid but your preference for them will come down to if you like the white chocolate blend with either strawberry or mango.

If you're looking for a reasonably-priced Easter egg for your kids then these will work very well.

Aldi's new Easter eggs will be available to buy in-store from Sunday, March 23.
