How do normally pay for your shopping in-store at Tesco? The supermarket has announced one popular payment method is being axed next month to “keep bringing out the best value and convenience”.
In an email sent to customers, Tesco revealed it will be removing the “pay in-store” feature, previously known as Tesco Pay+ from the app and some say they are “disappointed” and “annoyed” with the move.
Many shoppers have become huge fans of this feature over time as it allows them to pay for their shopping and collect Clubcard points at the same time by scanning a code.
In an email, Tesco shared the news and explained what customers will need to do as the ‘pay in-store’ feature is “phased out” between now and March 7.
Tesco to remove 'pay in-store' app feature in March
The update said: "To ensure we’re able to keep bringing out the best value and convenience, we’ve taken the difficult decision to remove the pay in-store feature, formally known as Tesco Pay+, from the Tesco app.
“Between now and March 7, the pay in-store feature will be phased out and any linked card details will be removed, unless you’re using them for GetGo, Whoosh, or home delivery shopping.
“So next time you’re in-store, you’ll need to pay separately after scanning your Clubcard. You can still earn points and access Clubcard Prices by simply scanning your Clubcard or app at the till. Or you can add your Clubcard to your Apple or Google Wallets.”
But it seems some Tesco shoppers are not too happy with the change, as one who said it’s their “favourite feature of the app” took to X to ask: @Tesco why are you doing this to me? This is my favourite feature of the app. Now I have to scan my card then tap the phone, why are you removing it??? #madting #payinstore”

Another enquired: “@Tesco hi understand you’re finishing your Tesco payment wallet on the App and Clubcard recording and payment will then have to be made separately. Any particular reason? Seems a backwards step. Thanks.”
