Unforgotten is set to return for its sixth series on ITV with Sanjeev Bhaskar and Sinead Keenan leading the cast.

DI Sunny Khan (Bhaskar) and DCI Jessica James (Keenan) will be continuing their working partnership established in series 5, following the death of DCI Cassie Stuart at the end of series 4.

Like in all the previous series, the pair will have to investigate a cold case and the multiple people that could be connected to it.

A synopsis on the Radio Times reads: "The series begins when suspected human remains are uncovered on Whitney Marsh – Jess and Sunny are immediately called to the scene, abandoning their evening plans to Jess’s husband’s chagrin.

"Dr Balcombe’s analysis reveals that the remains are relatively recent and suggest a grim conclusion: the body was placed there already dismembered.

"With this insight, Jess and Sunny intensify their search certain that other body parts may not be far away."

Speaking to the Radio Times Bhaskar discussed the pair's rocky working relationship and how they're still establishing a rhythm.

He said: "I mean, for me, it’s a continuation of their relationship that started in season 5. For me, by the end of season 5, they have that one scene where they kind of open up to each other. That was a really vital moment in their relationship.

"There’s an element of trust in their working relationship now; Jess doesn’t think that Sunny’s a threat, he doesn’t think that she’s a threat to the way he works and everything.

"In terms of their personal lives, I don’t think they know each other that well yet. So, they do hold back on that, as you would with co-workers."

When will Unforgotten series 6 be on TV?

The first episode of the sixth series of Unforgotten will air at 9pm on Sunday, February 9 on ITV1.

The second episode will air in the same timeslot the following day on Monday, February 10.

After that, the remaining episodes will air in the same pattern, but if you don't want to wait then all episodes of the series will be available to stream on ITVX as a box set from Sunday.
