Pizza Express fans have been left devastated after only just discovering that a popular pizza has been removed from the menu.

The Calabrese, which was a hot and spicy sausage pizza, had launched in 2010 but was withdrawn towards the end of 2024 in favour of new options.

However, some customers initially missed the news of it being discontinued and were shocked to discover it was no longer available when going for a meal there.

Posting on X (formerly known as Twitter) one person wrote on December 31: "@PizzaExpress sincerely, you need to bring back the calabrese.

"Itā€™s the only reason I came to pizza express, my favourite pizza from anywhere. Sad day when you stopped it. Could you reconsider?"

Another shared: "Oi @PizzaExpress ā€¦ Havenā€™t been in for a few months, booked a table for tonight but it seems that the Calabrese is no longer on the menuā€¦? What madness is this?"

Several expressed similar sentiments, as another posted: "Just walked in into Cardiff Bay Pizza Express and NO Calabrese! Why oh why? There is no justice in this cruel world".

Commenting on a Pizza Express post before Christmas one person said: "@PizzaExpress looks nice for your Xmas menu but please tell me you're bringing the Calabrese in the New Year?

"The Calabrese is the best pizza in the world & Pizza Express will never be the same without! (A regular customer for nearly 30 years)".

Pizza Express explained it regularly comes up with new menu ideas, which means old ones need to make way, The Sun reported.

It said: ā€œWeā€™re famous for our iconic menu items, from cult favourite ā€“ the American - to our delicious Padana.Ā

ā€œWhile we appreciate the Calabrese had a strong fanbase, we are always innovating and offering new flavours and dishes for our customers to fall in love with.Ā

ā€œThat means we have said goodbye to our Calabrese for now, but you never know what may appear (or reappear!) in theĀ future.ā€

Pizza Express runs 360 pizzerias in the UK and also sells a range of items across supermarkets.
